Northward: Keepsakes from the Wild

Debuting in October 2026 at the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Northward: Keepsakes from the Wild is an ecological keepsake adventure where you play as a Park Ranger studying brown bears at Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park. One day, you come across an old cabin logbook, and all of a sudden, your once peaceful and predictable fieldwork turns into a strange and wondrous quest that takes you deep into the heart of the last great salmon run.

The journey Northward begins October 31, 2026.

Are you ready?

This experience is designed to feel like a collection of whimsical, and at times, slightly jumbled, field notes. From hurried little sketches and sidenotes in margins, to more elaborate journal entries detailing a truly unforgettable event, your journal will begin to take on a life of its own. Over time, nostalgic pony bead keychains, ethereal watercolor illustrations, and beautiful felted dolls become treasured keepsakes, each representing a winsome memory made along the way.

One of the paper craft activities is a pop up paper tent that lights up with a flickering LED diode.

This paper tent uses clever paper engineering techniques as well as paper circuits to make a magical little prop that accompanies the creative crafting prompts.

The paper tent uses a simple pull tab system that slides to “lock” the folding paper tent base open when in use. When it is time to put the tent back into storage, the pull tab can slide back to “unlock” the fold in the tent base so the entire tent structure can fold in half. While the electrical base does not fold, it can be easily stored in a separate folder.

This activity is also an excellent learning tool for those interested in experimenting with basic techniques for 3D pop up books or card making.

While the template in the book is for a simple white model, you can always add decorative scrapbook paper or colorful illustrations to personalize your tent.

All activities in the book are for personal use only.
